Great documentary on the 777

I have found a great documentary on the making of the Boeing 777 (if you're going to watch it prepare some time - it's 5 hours long!!!).

21st Century Jet - Making the Boeing 777 (Part 1 of 5)

Now I have a question not really related, but as I was watching, I heard Jim McWha (the Chief Engineer, Flight Control) speaking (at 31 "10). Does anyone know where his accent is from and why it sounds so familiar?

Otherwise I really recommend watching this - it's a fascinating insight into the development of a new plane and into the inner workings of Boeing. Great PR on their part by allowing it to be filmed and released.

Was shown on UK television (Channel 4, I think) about ten years ago. Not available on DVD, not even at Boeing's store. Pity.

Yes it was shown on UK television about 15 years ago. What surprises me is that Boeing did such a superb job on the B777 in terms of design, manufacture and delivery, and then made such a pigs ear with the B787.
I bet Alan Mullaly is having a good laugh.

With all his problems at Ford, I very much doubt it!

Having been here awhile, I think that I can advise you that you will get more help and less flaming if you can write in proper english and not texttalk.

Back to my question though.... still no luck on finding out the origins Of Jim McWha... maybe the mods might be kindfull and move this over to JB where it might get an answer. Thanks.

Um, given that he probably saved the company, the only one of the big three that didn't get bailed out, outselling CM and Chrysler. He's laughing all the way to the bank.

Accent

Jim's accent is northern Ireland, where he grew up on a farm.
