Strange...

This is a photo of F-14 Tomcat`s cockpit
Look at the Mach indicator - max is only 1.5 Ma.
Every publications gives max speed is 2.35 Ma.
I`m confused...

The particular F-14 pictured (look at the Bureau Number in the top right of the instrument panel) had been highly modified over the years as a test aircraft - first with NASA and later at Pax River.

Therefore instruments and performance may not be standard.
