That Alaska face...

From: MANY FROWN OVER POSSIBLE REMOVAL OF ALASKA AIRLINES' SMILING ESKIMO FACE

“the airline for years has gotten comments from passengers that the Eskimo face looks like Charles Manson, Moammar Gadhafi, Johnny Cash or Willie Nelson”

“US State Senator Willie Hensley, an Eskimo from Kotzebue, says the Eskimo face is that of the late Chester Seveck, "a reindeer herder and a phenomenal Eskimo dancer" who greeted deplaning tourists at Kotzebue for years. "His face is a symbol of Alaska."

So now you know!

Thanks for that - I hadn't thought of Charlie Manson but it's an interesting possibility. I wonder if they can be related at all?

Sharp-eyed folks will also note that the Eskimo in the older colors had a more stern, frowning look versus the smiling countenance on the current livery. It's a detail that I've seen some model makers not catch.
