Call signs...?

Is there anywhere/way to find out what/who the private call signs relate to?
Been taking photos at Oxford at night so not easy to get the REG or even the type sometimes?
For example...this big biz-jet.......cant remember the call sign, need to write them down!!)

If I could find out the information then it would be worth making notes?
Cheers
TP

One of the reasons operators of bizjets use callsigns is because many high-profile individuals value discretion.

Lovely picture, by the way. Unless I'm mistaken you can even make out where the tail-nav light has dipped lower during rotation. Very nice!

Thanks alib.........but looking for Biz-jets.....Doodlebug im guessing you're right about the discretion.
There is slope on the runway at Oxford....so the aircraft rotating and the slope make the tail nav light look like its going down.
This one was easy as he was using N4T as his call sign.

Very busy at Oxford today......!

I'm guessing it was?
It was taken Friday evening, it took off back to Luton, about 18:50.

In that case it was Legacy G-RUBE, which is Oxford based and was positioning to LTN ready for a flight to AUH.

Thanks alib.........but looking for Biz-jets
Ah - I see .

However I think they still follow the same rules and their selected company call sign should be in "ICAO Doc 8585" along with all the airline ones.

I have heard a few informal call signs used - but I think only as a local procedure.

Could be wrong - often am!

Sounds unlikely to me, do you have any examples?

An extra based at my local airfield used to use the callsign "three eyes" (rather than its registration "G-?III"). Maybe it was official but I assumed at the time it was just a shorthand that the group and the FISO had agreed upon.

Also heard FISOs and A/G operators pronouncing the registrations of local aircraft as words rather than NATO letters.

Perhaps "local lack of procedure" would have been a better way to describe this kind of thing.

Sometimes you can get away with things like "five hundred" instead of "five zero zero" in calllsigns, but grouping of letters and using "words" spelled out by registrations sounds like poor RTF discipline in my book.

If you have an iPhone there's a handy app for spotters called Flight Code. It gives you loads of 2, 3, and 4 letter codes for airlines/aircraft and also callsigns.

Another good one is plane finder, takes SBS-1 feeds from the internet and displays them on your iPhone in real time - very good.
