Cruising traffic over Leeds

Hi there

i do contrail spotting from my home in north leeds just south east of LBA, flight routes UL46 going West direct to REMSI and north on UL613 direct to MARGO/TALLA and UY250 direct to GASKO. I use a 12inch Dobson Telescope to spot and when conditions are perfect i'll take pictures with dslr and 2x Barlow Mag Lense.
I got routes from NATS
Does anyone know scanner frequencies for these two routes
Any help and comments would be great

Airway photos

Wow... What fantastic photos. I have tried to produce images like those myself with a 150-500mm lens, however when the image is enlarged my results are poor compared to yours. I would be interested to know what focal length your lens is, and I expect you use a tri / monopod ???. My location 4 mile final at LBA should provide the same conditions for shooting so I have no excuse. Thanks again for a peek at your portfolio.

hi there

I use the telescope as my lens focal length 1500mm (3000mm with x2 Barlow Lens)
best conditions are when wind is coming from west, northwest or from the north

All the best

leedseagle,
superb pictures!
I have been trying to find information on this type of photography for some time.
I use Nikon DSLR/Canon compact equipment, and live near the MCT VOR.
What telescope (refractor/reflector), combinations would work well? I have tried using borrowed 'prime lenses', (up to 600mm), but, scanning the net, 'digiscoping' always seems to produce the best results.
Any ideas you would care to share, or web-sites to look at?

hi there
Best scopes for this type of photography are Skywatcher Skyliners 8" 10" or 12"
Camera Centre
Depending on your budget

Your Dslr will need a Nikon T-ring and generic T-Nosepiece
Nikon T Ring
T Adaptor 2"

You will also need a 2x Mag Barlow lens Revelation or Televue Powermate (gives 2400mm/3000mm focal length in winter conditions) depending on your budget
Revelation ED 2x Barlow 2"
CrazyCameras - Tele Vue 2x Powermate, 2" Image Amplifier

It looks like a lot to buy but i bought 12" scope, T-ring and T-adapter, Revelation Barlow and it all came to less than what a Bigma 50mm-500mm Lens would cost

Telescope set up can be found here
Weather & Aviation Page - Contrail telescope setup
