I heard it was someone lighting up a cigar post-coitus in one of the suites.

Just said it all yourself - an A380 diverted back to Heathrow due to smoke. What more could you want to know? How many nuns were onboard?

But if someone were to say it was Ryanair, then there'd be twenty posts on here suggesting it was a brake fire in the wheel wells.

Give them a break chaps , how many airports can a mere 380 pilot divert to ? He /she could have very likely diverted to Gatters or AMS etc , but ohmigod , do they have jetties ??? New QRH entry about 'Suitable ' diversions......

Hetfield.

They've got dozens, but they hide 'em otherwise Michael would have to pay tax on them!

"Oh no sir, bless you sir! We've only got a few Boeings sir! I can only count to two engines sir!"

Hmmmm smoke in the cockpit.......and absolutely no catering when it left again from LHR at 5.30 tonight. Reason given the passengers (some got off as so concerned) was that the chillers had failed and no additional catering could be uplifted. Seems odd to get to Poland turn back only to be airborn again in 90 minutes. FRA would have been closer and has full QF opeation. Given the awful operational reliability of the A380's under QF control would simply chalk this up as another blunder....

No smoke whatsoever. A problem with the smoke detection system. Frankfurt wasn't really an option, as it takes time to dump fuel, it's not really an emergency, and there's no 380 support in there.
