Was that 11.30Z? PPruNe time doesn't coincide with my PC so I'm never sure what time is referred to. Haven't got anything on SBS resembling an AN-225 at 11.57z..

Yeah 11:30Z... Mmmm. I'm certain it wasnt a 747 unless the light was playing tricks. I was looking straight up at it. Often have C5's over here on a Saturday or Sunday as well as the usual civil traffic so do have something to compare....

Thanks for looking :-)

If you are looking straight up at it, then count the engines [or contrails] 225 has six engines. therefore six contrails

I, know, I know, but, in fairness, Nick H did state he was looking straight up at it, therefore justifying my post. I wasn't trying to be sarcastic, just trying to help!

Heading into work (a large supplier to the aerospace industry based south derby) at about 7:45 this morning saw what I believe was the AN-124 climbing out of EMA. was heading approx. for TNT VOR presumably for a departure to the North.

Pretty sure it was the AN-124 judging by the high(er than AN-225) tail, blue tail colour scheme, shape and plumes of smoke. Only saw the side view so couldn't count the number of engines (or smoke trails for that matter). Gues-timate the altitude at about 3000 to 4000ft.

Could it be possible that what was seen was the same aircraft returning South a little later in the afternoon?

One AN-124 I've seen had a blue fin and another had a blue stripe up the fin. Sounds like you saw an AN-124 to me...
