Boeing 787 Dreamliner Alleged sighting at AGP

Dear PPruners,

I would be grateful for your help in settling an argument I have with a friend over a claimed sighting of a Boeing 787 Dreamliner at AGP (Malaga) on 27th December; he says it was there and I say it could not have possibly been.

My friend claims that the aircraft was clearly displaying the numbers 787 and was probably painted in First Choice livery (the UK launch customer for the type). It has to be said all aircraft do look the same to him, apart from the ones with stairs inside!

Considering the maiden test flight occurred in Seattle on 15th December with a follow up one week later I was pretty convinced that the aircraft would not be let out of US airspace until it had been certified in some way but perhaps I am wrong on that. Is it possible that a version of the aircraft could be doing a European tour around potential customers already? (apparently 6 aircraft have been manufactured so far).

Any theories or confirmed sightings from anyone who was at AGP that day would be much appreciated.

Cheers

No way for sure, they have only had two 787s flying to date, and both are still doing tests in the US NW.

balanceball1.
ryanair had a 737/800 painted in the 787 launch colour scheme, not sure if it still is though. i suppose to the untrained eye a quick sideways glance it could look like first choice colours.

Many thanks for all your replies which I think will prove useful evidence in my campaign. Purple Helmet - I favour your suggestion about it being a Ryanair 737 in disguise. I subsequently found some YouTube footage of this aircraft!

Cheers

Balance...

Just leave him be, so what if he thinks he saw it, Hes going to tell people who if they care will simply make him look like he has total egg on his face! That could be funnier!

I have just returned from AGP. Eire O'Flot do have a heavy presence with their 737-800s so the Dreamliner liveried 737 was probably seen. AFAIK the 787 hasnt left North America as yet.

Right enough of this sillyness......BOTH of the flying 787s are still at Boeing Field in Seattle.

One of the aircraft suffered a slight malfuntion and has barely contributed to the flight test programme as it is. In the mean time niether of the aircraft have crossed any oceans or indeed crossed the US continent!

So go specsavers people and get your eyes tested!

You are savvy enough to find Pprune, surely you are savvy enough to find the Boeing website (and indeed flight internationals website) and find the lates updates on the 787 flight test programme!

Your totally wrong there, a 787 is without doubt operating in the cheshire area, a good friend of mine was in the davenport arms near woodford last night and got chatting to a yank at the bar, turns out this yank was actually a 787 test pilot he wouldnt divulge too much info( even after being plied with umpteen pints of robbies best bitter) but my mate reckons the aircraft is based at woodford aerodrome where its carrying out its test programme well away from prying eyes, theres even a rumour going around woodford that boeing might be setting up a production facilty there.

Any chance it could have been a First Choice 767 with the 6 being misread as an 8?! from a distance 767 = 787?

Red face LogieBear

A 787 on the apron at Barton? I am V surprised indeed. I am certain this would have been in all national newspapers. Have to agree with apaddyinuk.
