Boeing's live feed website currently saying the 787 is estimated to land at 12.50pm PST (20.50 GMT) although given the feed on Flightaware it doesn't look anywhere near ready to land!

First flight should always include a stall series. To know how a plane is going to fly, and to land it, you have to know how it stalls.

I was told the first flight of every McDouglas production plane included a stall series, and then the crew would call home to put the insurance in effect.

Estimated landing 12:50 pst, per their site.

No galley - just bare walls and insulation most likely.

Track log

If you review the track log

FlightAware > Track Log > BOE1 > 15-Dec-2009 > KPAE-KBFI

there seems to be a lot of uppy and downy stuff, but not much lefty or righty.

That's after 2 hours - so perhaps they are about to do a couple of hours of left-righty tests starting any minute now?

Assumes they spend the last hour or so doing uppy lefty downy righty stuff to get back to the field?

Just as I write this they did a great big lefty. They have been down at 5000ft or so for ages, so it must be time more lefty righty tests...

FlightAware lists ETA as 3:54 PST - 2 hours to go as of this post.

Steady decrease in altitude - a planned profile to test in thicker and thicker air? Or staying below a deteriorating ceiling to get in as many tests as possible?

(edit): but maybe that's why Boeing is now saying 25 minutes to go - weather not cooperating.

Has it occurred to anyone that there is a rather large front moving into the area and that the winds aloft are high?

Weather trouble?

They're quickly into the lefty uppy's now, and all this below 5000ft.

I think they're fighting against a rapidly decreasing ceiling.

The planned altitude was always 15,000ft, but the most they achieved during the uppy downy test was 13,200ft.

True - but they've been at 13,200 ft or (mostly) lower for the whole flight according to the FlightAware tracking (for whatever that's worth). Winds, tracking lag or averaging, slow flight are all playing a role.

But an incoming front would explain why Boeing is not using the full 5 hours originally planned for - such is testing.

Plane will be landing shortly due to bad weather in the Seattle area.

Boeing web site is now live for the landing.

Agreed...looks stunning in the air...great lines, really graceful looking bird...

Something of the 757 around the nose...

And that wing looks fabulous.

The landing is on this video on the BBC: BBC News - New Boeing 787 Dreamliner makes maiden flight

Is it missing it's unique engine cowlings at the moment, or is it just the quality of the video?

Engine cowlings

The serrated engine cowlings were clearly visible on the 'live' feed from another source.

Each.

Just visible at 1:57 on that BBC video (on landing).
