Hmm is it just me or is perhaps some of the information on here useful for those intent in doing damage to an aircraft in flight.

On Apps for the iPhone is one called PlaneFinder.
It appears to show aircraft over the UK [in my case] with aircraft type/reg/company and speeds/direction/altitudes down to around 4/5000 feet. Anything below that seems to vanish.

Flightaware have one that's worth checking out. Type in EGLL and expand the map window. You can zoom in and out and click on the a/c symbol to obtain the flightplan. EGLL covers northern France up to the Pole Hill area.

Flight Numbers mix up! Why?
I was tracking an over-flight KAL902. When I clicked on the plane I got a picture of a Korean Airlines 747. I looked for KAL902 on the flightstatus web site and it gave me KA902 which was a Dragonair flight. I then typed in Korean to the flightstatus site and that gave a prefix of KE. And flight KE902 was a flight from Charles de Gaulle to Inchen (which was quite likely looking at the height and direction on the display).
Any explanation please?
Regards Mike
PS Still a fantastic sight! Better viewing than the tele

It does say on More Info on the site that it can be configured for any airport but is it only for Schiphol right now?
Would be nice to have it for MAN.
Great site tho. Great to see a wider variety of aircraft.

Hi all, first post here.
I've spent way too much time watching the casper site. I like to keep the ATC audio on as well, you'll find it it liveatc.net (EHAM = Schiphol).
As for the KE902 <> KAL902 issue, I believe this is due to the fact that IATA (ticketing codes) are two letters, while ICAO (ATC callsigns) codes are three letters. So a Korean flight would show up as KE902 on the ticket and airport terminal displays, while the tracking site and ATC communications would be KAL902. Hope that makes sense, and please somebody correct me if I am wrong.
You can look up these codes here: AIRFRAMES.ORG - Airlines and Operators
Also, I believe the Casper solution currently only has a feed from a single SBS-1 receiver at the Frontier building, but the software is capable of using other feeds. There is a web site at Watch Air Traffic - LIVE! that covers a much larger area, it would be very nice if they could use the Casper software.
As for the planes that disappear, I've come to believe it is simply due to lost reception at the location of the antenna. You will notice it only happens at low altitudes and in certain locations. Also, I would estimate the latency to be in the ten-second range, judging from ATC communications.

Cross checking with the Schiphol live arrivals and departures board suggests that the actual picture of the aircraft they show when one clicks on the icon is the actual aircraft doing the flight.

Watch Air Traffic - LIVE! primarily and originally set up for Scandinavian Air Traffic now covers UK and most of Northern Europe as well.
So most Northern European flights can be live tracked from take off to touchdown...Thanks to whoever is networking the info!
Radar Virtuel covers France and parts of Spain although Spain results are a bit patchy.
Just wish I had the money to set up something here in Southern Spain...

It's even kind enough to put a piccie of the aircraft type ( and sometimes the actual airline) in the panel to the left. Very impressive piece of tackle. Wish we could have one like it in the Nanny state that didn't cost 25 Euros!
