created Thursday, Sep 17th 2009 05:46Z, last updated Thursday, Sep 17th 2009 05:46ZAn Air Canada Airbus A330-300, registration C-GFAF performing flight AC-844 from Calgary,AB (Canada) to Frankfurt/Main (Germany), was enroute 40nm south of Igloolik,NU (Canada, N6822 W8109) and about 1500nm north of Toronto,ON (Canada) when the crew reported high vibrations of the right hand engine (Trent 772). Upon request by the company the crew decided to divert to Toronto, where the aircraft landed safely about 3:05 hours later.The flight was cancelled.

Sorry mate, a really pointless thread. If we were to report every divert the pages of PPRuNe would crash on a regular basis. I could have understood if there was a conclusion to your post but it did beg the question "and your point is"?

So bloody what? hardly an unheard of occurance, worst case crew can elect to shut the engine down , end of story..moron.

response to AC 844-15 Sept.
It all was a bit different. I was on that flight and was looking out of the window, admiring the fantastic northern lights. All of a sudden there was a big explosion in the right engine of the aircraft. With a big bang, a huge flash came out of the engine. The aircraft shook tremendously. For about 15 to 30 seconds sparks came out of the engine. The pilot had shut down the engine. A pilot came to our seats to check whether flames or sparks came out of the engine. I tell you it was a pretty frightening situation. Fortunately shutting down the engine solved the problem, they told us that they restarted the demaged engine and could use it with a 1/4 of the power, but I doubt that. We landed safely, and I must admit that I was happy to be on the ground. Out of profession (I am a photojournalist) I fly a lot and have no fear what soever for flying, but I was pretty nervous that three hours to Toronto. I strolled the net to see whether somebody had wrote someting about it and bumed into this forum. So there was more to it than just trembling engines as Air Canada try to believe you.

Well I’m not qualified on the A330, but I am on the B737. I find it interesting, thanks for posting it Karrol.

You will find a lot of pilots will come down here and have a read about things and answer any questions any of you guys have. But reading some of the aggressive and sarcastic posts I wonder why, if all you can do is be rude to one another?
