A question for Ryanair/738 crew.
recently flew STN-BRE on Ryanair, I was amazed how quick everything was, especially the taxi, which almost seemed to be part of the take off roll, we turned really fast onto the runway and just went for it, really exhilerating experience.
On the return flight, again a really fast taxi and a steeper that I am used to climb out. It was 50 mins back to STN and at TOD the FO said that we were just leaving our cruising alt of 40000ft. This was somewhat impressive for me as thats a pretty high cruise for such a short flight. Was this done for fuel savings?, I imagined a rapid ascent and then a slow idle descent into STN was probably done. either way I was impressed by the performance of the 738.
Both landings were absolute greasers, again, I am sure this was down to the pilots but is it made easier on the 738?, becaus that was the two best landings in probably the last 50 I have done (the rest on ZB airbus).
Thanks in advance

Just a quick reply as I'm a out to boar a flight.
Taxi speeds are limited by our SOPs and are checked by our flight monitoring system, so although it may feel fast it will have been within limits. Also, we are a commercial opperation, if they'd just ben told to expedite the taxi or hold short of the runway for landing traffic which would you do?
The climb angle is governed by speed, power and weight. So if your high powered and low weight you'll shoot up.
As for the flight level, an optimum flight is climbing to the highest level achieveable before starting an idle decent, all at cost index speeds, therefore you may have experienced this.
The landing in a 738 is regarded as being pretty tricky due to the slightly higher approach speeds required due to tail clearence.

But Ryanair's limits are totally different to that of most airlines
I am led to believe a couple of fines have been issued lately due to taxying too fast?

At STN the taxi distance from Satellite 2 or 3 stands (where Ryanair park) to runway 22 is short. So when arriving at the holding point if there's no other traffic to affect then you'll be on the runway and taking-off very quickly.
