Flying into Sanford, FL

Family trip heading to Orlando next week, arriving late afternoon at Sanford.

Couple of questions if you'd be so kind:

What's the basic route taken (TOM352 from EMA)? Yeah, I know, over the Atlantic, but can anyone help with a link to a route map? My 7 yr old is really excited about what she's going to see out of the windows (well, the bits that aren't water, anyway)

and... seeing the usual weather late afternoons at Orlando seems to be thunderstorms, how rough are landings there? I'm okay with pretty much anything but the wife ain't too keen on flying since we had an overhead-bins-came-open type hard landing at HUY in 2007! So forewarned and forearmed etc

Normally over Newfoundland Island, then south westwards across the mouth of the St. Lawrence, over New Brunswick, New England to within sight of Boston, east of New York, over Portsmouth and the Carolinas, then out to sea again straight down towards Florida. Some times a more southerlyand easterly route is taken- all depends on the winds.

No problems with weather there. Easy to avoid and ATC are a very good help. A lovely route and can be very scenic. I don't think the summer storms are at full strength yet, but they are not a problem.

Depending on the winds on the pond another route is towards Bermuda then off shore on the eastern side of the warning areas where the USN play to enter the USA over the space centre and into a long downwind for 09L.This is all very academic though as it depends on where the weather is building in Florida and where the gaps are! My record is a very long way North West of Tampa as we tried to find a hole in a very big line of weather having come down the coast.

Just a quickie to say thanks for the responses, yep we did pretty much as per Rainboe's directions, daughter was chuffed to bits that we knew where we were!

If you don't mind another question, any hints on how I can help my wife overcome her fear of flying? She was fine going out, but got *really* upset coming back because she could see lightning for quite a while (TOM353/30th June). Its hard for her and I know she really wants to go back to Florida, but I don't think she'll get on a plane again in the near future. I know many will think it sounds irrational but it's a very real fear for her.

Fear of flying?

Look up the Virgin "flying without fear" course - it worked wonders for my wife, even though against recommendations she did not fly for more than 6 months after the end of course flight.
