Red face Sloppy Ryans

I travelled home to London from Dublin yesterday from an end-of-A-levels mini-break with my mates.

Now I've flown Ryanair a few times before, and never had any complaints. And I'm personally not too bothered about what I saw last night - although I doubt many other passengers felt the same.

Recently there was a thread about the appearence of pilots - and I disagreed with the view that pilots must look like shop window models all the time. However, yesterday the Captain and First Officer were chating in the passenger cabin whilst the flight was boarding. The Captain looked truly rough! He had his top 3 buttons undone and open, his hair was long (female looking) and he looked generally weary. Now, don't shout at me, I know that he might well be Ryanair's best, etc! And the flight itself was faultless, but I can imagine that passengers of a nervous disposition about flying and so on may not be so relaxed by this show of shabbyness.

What did suprise me was that the F/O then proceded to make a phone call on his mobile phone right there by the front galley - in front of all passengers. The Captain ignored this. (This shortly before the safety briefing explaining the reasons that mobile phones are banned - a good example?)

During flight the cabin crew continued to dent the collective Ryanair reputation by acting in a stupid manner.

1) Flicking water at each other at the font of the aircraft.

2) Garbling important PA's, whilst sporadically laughing hysterically for no aparent reason.

3) Recording themselves laughing on a small dictophone pen, then playing it over the PA.

4) Doing their best to put each other off whilst making PA's. The safety demo was stop-start the whole way through to allow the No. 1 to double over laughing at her will.

Now I'm seriously not a prude, my mates and I were not in the least bit bothered by what we saw, but the old ladies behind us were moaning, and several other passengers showed looks of dis-belief.

I'm interested to hear others views of these events, professional and from a passenger point of view. Any similar experiences?

Oh, and b.t.w, as usual the flight was delayed and, of course, we did taxi at around V1 - but that goes without saying really!

Where was the baby when all this was going on?

Flight crew I cant comment on, however any time Ive flown Ryanair, Ive always found the flight crew excellent and well presented.

On the subject of cabin crew, I have known many a Ryanair f/a who at the best of times do 10hr day without a break. Im sure this was an isolated incident, because 100% of the time I fly with FR i have always found the FAs to be more friendly, professional, easy to talk to, able to handle a lot more crap than those within the national airline.

So I raise my hand in the air and say that I think Ryanair F/As are probably the best in the business in Europe, and would fly with them any day, (if the flights were on time)

Yeah, well it's hard to take life seriously when you're on yet another 6 leg 12 hour day.
