Thumbs up 45,000 PPRuNers!!!!!!!!!

*gets up on soapbox and clears throat*

Well, I said I'd make a big speech, so here goes....

*Ahem* I just want to congratulate Danny on this milestone on the growth of PPRuNe as more than just a newsgroup, but as an organisation. As a young wannabe myself, I find PPRuNe both entertaining and informative. But most of all, I'm humbled by the people you find here: air hostesses (and hosts!), Air Traffic Controllers, ferry, bush, military, the list goes on. And, although there are many, many British here, there are many also from countries from Australia, to the Americas, Europe, Africa, truly an international forum! I don't know of any Internet based group out there that has such a diverse following! And all with links to the one thing: A hatred for all things beancounter! (naah only kidding! Aviation of course! ) Danny, keep up the good work! Let's get this membership to 100,000, and then we'll have a voice that can be heard by all uncaring beancounters everywhere!

*steps down from soap box*

That was my first go at speech writing, it's all the first thing that came into me head! Over the top? Probably, but someone had to mark the big 45k with something........

I wonder what'll be done for the 50,000........

A better statistic would be the number of users (ie still active). PPRuNe has no doubt grown over the years but nothing like the way the number registered would suggest. Just take a look at a few sample threads and you'll see the pattern of user numbers suggests a large number of ids fall by the wayside.

twistedenginestarter has the more realistic way of looking at the site. There are also a small number of users with more than one ID.

The reality is an average of around 37,000 seperate visitors per day and of these less than half are registered. So, the vast majority of those registered don't post and the majority of readers aren't even registered

I'm quite surprised by that statistic. 37000 different IP addresses per day. Very impressive.

You say less than half are registered. Let's say it's a third - 12000. Bearing in mind our registered users cannot log on every day (I've been away 7 days unable to find an internet cafe), that rather suggests a high proportion of user ids must still be in use.

Seems I'm wrong....again
