It's sunny in Somerset!
It's sunny in Somerset!
It's Monday morning (20th April) and a friend is arriving via Heathrow this morning so I had a look at Teletext to see if the plane is on time. Terminal 1, in particular, seems to be suffering delays - 2 VS diversions quite a few BD flights a couple of hours late. My normal thought would be weather but the forecast, much less what it's like here in Somerset don't support that.
So, I'm just intrigued, is there a problem this morning or is it just coincidence?

Maybe there was a problem earlier, but they're packing them in on 09L now
Example.
I was asked one time to maintain 200 knots until 5 miles.
My reply...'4 miles if you like'.
The 'ole L1011, especially the -250 and -500 models had high flap speeds, and could slow down on a dime, on short final.
Ahhhh, Lockheed!
Still finds a small requirement, even after all these years.

What you need is a Twin Otter!
You could do Vne (166kts) to about 400' close the throttles and land on the threshold at 75kts. It was like hitting a brick wall. If you nudged them back into reverse it would be even quicker but you needed to get that "just" right.
