Air 2000 757 slumming at Port Moresby
The annual round-the-world charter is on its way again this year. The distinctive shape of the Boeing 757 at the international terminal at AYPY makes a nice change from the every day, more common types of machines I see here.
I'm informed by a fairly reliable source that the plane is decked out as all First Class and that there are some 60 pax on this trip, all having paid something like USD80,000.00 for the unique privilege.
The crew stay in a Port Moresby hotel very close to the airport while the pax are off for 3 days of adventures around the country. I hear that at least some of the crew might be sampling the scuba diving attractions by day - and a few of the "hotter" attractions at night!
I welcome the crew to Port Moresby and hope you have a pleasant and hassle-free time here. Y'all be careful now!

What lucky crew to be selected for this trip!
At least the tour wasn't snaffled by senior crew, with four rings in each front seat.
Er - was it?

I didn't go anywhere near the aircraft myself, so have no idea about the seniority of the crew. But I'm prepared to bet that this trip would only be bid among the most senior crews.

Duly noted that Air 2000 was back in here, as I passed the international terminal yesterday. Could this possibly be the same charter flight still doing the rounds?
Oh! I know ... they must be hubbing from here now!

Seat pitch looks a lot better than you get for £250!
Do they 'lease' those seats or do they own a set for operations such as this? They do look comfy. Shame I haven't $8k let alone $80k!

That's not First Class!. .. .Looks more like Business to me - or maybe I'm just spoilt flying on CX & BA longhaul and don't know how the other half lives etc.
I just left Lima, Peru, this morning, and saw a verrrrrrrry similar aircraft on the ramp. . .. .Didn't get the registration number (I'm not a spotter, you know ), but if I were one to wager, I'd bet it was the same jet.

Flight Detent . .. .Ela Beach RSL burned down quite some time ago - about 20 years ago I think!!!. .. .It was not there in the mid-80's when I first went to PNG, but many of the older ones spoke about it and the RSL at Boroko as well. The Mobil Ela Beach Service Station and the Telikom Exchange are on the site of the old Ela Beach RSL.
