What did Michael O'Leary ever do for us?
I remember about ten years ago been down in the Coach "knowing" we were going to be out of a job the next day. Aer Lingus had almost put us out of buissness using tax payers money to undercut us and drive us of our routes. Then we got a brake. The government decided to give us a free hand on regional routes and give us exclusive rights on a couple of Aer Lingus routes. About the only thing they ever done for us. But it was only a life line till MOL came along and turned us into one of the most profitable airlines in the world.
Now times have changed. Aer Lingus is laying of there staff and the only place for them to run to in Ireland is Ryan Air! Just as well were still in buissness to give ex Aer Lingus employees there only hope of a job in Ireland. Guess Aer Lingus employees and ourselves have alot to thank Mick for.

The only thing that the Irish government did for you... please do not re-write history. FR have had their fare share of handouts in the past.
1. Kicked Aer Lingus off 3 profitable routes in favour of Ryanair
DUB - MUC
DUB - STN
DUB - LPL
2. Provided new ryanair head office rent free. Still rent free to this day
3. Grants for training
4. Built FR call centre
5. Introduced reduced landing charges in DUB and ORK with 90% discount on first three years landing charges, and any incremental growth
6. Even further discounted usage of Pier A facilities in Dublin
7. Increased Tourism spend in Ryanair destination regions
8. Marketing funds for FR in Irelands regions.

If you are able to post official documents that prove 'the breaks that the Ryan's have been given' it'd be appreciated.
The fact exists that last year, minus six months, RyanAir made a profit of 40 million pounds, which equated to exactly the 'no charge' break they had been afforded by Aer Rianta, no wonder they made a profit.(At the expense of Aer Rianta, is there any wonder they are pissed)
In my little company it even makes sense, if I don't get charged for it but charge the public anyway, we'll make money.
Your call and good luck too them for as long as they get away with it. Be prepared to die though.

What's Ryanair done for you? I'll tell you. It's put Ireland on the map from a tourism viewpoint - no way all those stag parties and hen nights could afford to go to Temple Bar at EI's prices!
It's introduced the previously alien concept of 'competition' to Irish skies, in place of the previous "let's divvy it up between us next time we meet down the yacht club" methodology.
It's created a new, young, vibrant, go-getter buzz in Irish aviation compared with the previous "ooh, more than my job's worth" and "you can't do that here" attitudes.
It's dragged Irish aviation kicking and screaming into the 21st century.
Crews find that they get well paid - but have to work bloody hard for it. And what's wrong with that?
Sure, MO'L's dictatorial management style could well do with being improved - management by fear doesn't work well in any environment.
And as for the cr@p being spouted about Aer Rianta's so-called 'subsidy' - just goes to show what you lot know about the commercial side of airlines! Aer Rianta, in common with pretty much every other airport in the world, offers incentives to attract in new operators. In Aer Rianta's case, those are 100% discounts (ie free) landing, parking and passenger charges for the first three years on new routes. So nothing sinister there!
Oh and I suggest you look at all the incentives/freebies Mrs O'Rourke provided for the Wooly Pully's short lived venture if you think FR is a unique case!

If MO'L is the future of Irish/UK aviation then I am going back to college.Incidently it costs as much to police your "stag" and "hen parties" and clean up after them as Temple Bar earns from them.

well i guess he's given ALT the BIGGEST kick up the ass that ALT management needed for the last god knows how many years.
Now they are about to lose their jobs....MOL's lot all of a sudden doesn't look half bad.
I think the GUVNOR works for either ALT or Aer Arann.....or is in Aer Arann and is Ex-ALT....the fact that he never answered the question....probably means he's too scared to let people know just what he actually does for a living.....
The fact that he has started so many threads and has so many "valid" insider opinions...leads me to think that either he flies a desk or is one of the anoraks you see on the perimeter road with a scanner in hand.......
