British Airtours Tristars were regulars in the 1970s/80s inc one which overran and required, at the time, the most expensive repair to an L1011, being stuck at LBA for months (G-BBAI I think). Wardair used 747s in the 1970s.

The last raft of large aircraft coincided with Leeds United playing in the Champions league,which will be at least 5 years ago I think.When they played Barcelona there were 2 Corsair 747's (1x200 & 1x300).I have a great video of the 200 landing,half way down runway 32,with the nose wheel touching down after the old runway 27 intersection.Good job it was positioning in empty! There was also an Air Atlanta 747-200 the same year also on football duty.Also have a vid of this taking off,using nearly all runway 32.There have also been some Lourdes charters over the years,also with an Air Atlanta 747-200,which made a perfect landing on 14 in the wet.

We lived in Shipley (just north of Bradford) in the nineties, and there used to be fairly regular visits to LBA by Concorde - doing short pleasure flights from the airport. Always a wonderful sight.

Yes, I know it's not really bigger than a 767, but it was a bl**dy sight more impressive.

Cheers for all the replies, all. I've checked airliners.net and there are only three pics of 747 visits - one the Corsair as mentioned above and one of a BA flypast. I don't think it ever actually touched down.

I'd love to see some pics of other 747s at LBA, I've always had a strange fasination with that airport - probably because I used to drive every day to work under that runway tunnel. You could almost feel like you could touch the departures / arrivals.

Totally agree ref: concorde too. Seeing her come down over Otley Chevin was alway, always a joy.

I saw one of the early series 737 hurtle down the runway before the extension and if you stuck your hand above the boundry fence you probably would have touched it

I have recently fallen foul of the rules regarding placing links to personal web sites in Leeds 5 on Airports, Airlines & Routes, but the moderator tells me that it's okay "in spotters."

Due to some queries from younger posters about large aircraft visiting in the past, I recently put these web sites together, one showing aircraft visitors and one showing the development of the airport during the mid 80s. I took all of the photographs except where shown.

possibly with the scart lead to make things easier. Then I think it is as easy as connecting the scart lead to your video, the USB to your computer and let the included software do its stuff.
