Post Have you or a fellow pilot had a DVT??

I had a Deep Vein Throbosis(DVT)while working as a pilot. If you or anyone you know has had one I would appreciate an email to see just how many of us have lost our medicals this way.

Quick word of caution. Although this poster may be genuine, profile shows registration on 27th June, with 3 posts and a generic ( virgin.net ) email address.

On such a contentious subject, journalistic interest is a possibility. Remember the BIG RED LETTERS.

[Edited after email from grounded1] :

I've had an email from grounded1 which explains his predicament a bit further - seems there's a genuine reason behind the enquiry. Maybe it's because I'm a bit paranoid . . .

I understand your suspictions,'The Nr Fairy'
but I am not a jounalist, you can probably understand why I have generic email as I don't want my name given to jounalists! If anyone does get in touch then they can ask me what ever industry questions they want to verify my credibility. I would of thought by my bad english that it was obvious that I was not a jounalist!!!

Grounded1

If it's not you, then a colleague of mine when I worked for an airline up north was grounded at least for a while with DVT. Not sure if he is back at work yet. Hope so.

However, he was fairly new to the company, and was relatively low hours so I suspect that it was either a pre-existing condition or he was genetically or lifestyle susceptable.

I presently work for a fairly big airline doing fairly long sectors (as opposed to a smallish one doing shortish sectors up north) and know of no instances among crew.

My gut feeling is that some people are susceptable and if they get it in an aircraft then the airline is to blame. (No offence meant)

If it happens in a car/bus/train/armchair, then there is no litigation target. And it does happen in car/bus/train/armchair scenarios.

With respect to your good self, I really think that DVT/sue the airline issue is a bandwagon encouraged by the media and ambulance chasing lawyers. The disease pre-existed aircraft.
