I am obviously seriously sad!! ( At least I admit it!!)

As a young lad about 4 or 5, I so wanted to be a Pilot for Thunderbirds.

Virgil the Pilot of Thunderbird 2 was a my hero.
I remember watching Thunderbird 2 in its hangar having its 'Pod' fitted with either the 'Mole' or Gordon's Thunderbird 4.

How I wanted to be a Thunderbird 2 Pilot.

So its with a certain 'deja vu' that I watch my DC8 Freighter being loaded with ULDs,

Maybe my dream has come true!!! LOL

Dark Skies you and me both! Back at that young age when I thought TV didnt bulls**t me, I wanted either to be a Starship captain (preferabley the Enterprise) and a Thunderbird 1 pilot. If I was a good boy and tried real real hard the world was my oyster.

Up until Grade 1 at school I was an excelent student. When my folks congratulated me for being so good, thats when I told them its because I wanted to one day command the Enterprise. And if I could squeeze it in Id join IR and have a crack at TB1. Then mum said "Dear, Star Trek and Thunderbirds are all made up. Its called.....fiction."

Nothin like destroying a kids dream in one foul swoop.

I NEVER saw the THUNDERBIRDS before....I knew it only from a musical clip of Dire Straits called "Calling Elvis". In Brazil if it was ever on TV I was a)not born yet (in this case you make it the Netherlands) or b) too young to remeber....

But don't intend to miss it. Its amazing what they have in mind on the sixties.....now we only have to wait for a re-run of SpectroMan..

Dark Skies

Ahhhhh!! Those were the days. Crawling around on my hands and knees with a cushion, ummm.. POD tied to my stomach, making silly noises.

35+ years later I seem to have grown a pod!!

Oh well....

Thunderbird 2 was it. The rest of the show paled in comparison.
But Follow As Broadcast?

I thought it was supposed to be "Fully-Acknowledge Broadcast"?

First, I want to make it perfectly clear that I am not a Thunderbirds anorak. I just happen to have a mate - the CEO of a rather successful small airline; who has named one of his B727-200s 'Thunderbird 1' - who is.

He says: "Did you see the episode where Lady Penelope was in here nightie - highly detailed pointy bits and very nice she looked too! In this episode she was on holiday in Monte Carlo, with Parker (of course!), aboard her luxury yacht FAB2. Parker was very "naughty" when he lost said yacht gambling at the casino - and Lady P was not amused."

My mate also admits to having had sexual fantasies about Lady P when he was a kid; and says that it was Thunderbirds that got him into aviation!

Gerry and Sylvia Andersons "Supermarionation" was ground-breaking stuff and spawned a host of shows. I recall Supercar as the first I saw, followed by Thunderbirds. Who remembers Captain Scarlet and the voice of the Mysterons? Space Patrol too was great stuff, encouraged kids to use their imagination. All great entertainment, probably made on a shoestring budget. I have a sneaking suspicion the n+1th re-run is on a pay-tv channel somewhere, sometime. Roll tape!

How thrilled I am that this thread is still motoring on. How nice it is for a change to hear you all having a bit of fun rather than hearing slander and slagging-off. Jubly

Oh - and what about JOE90 ??

Re the photograph in Xebec's September 10th Posting. Who was manning Thunderbird 5 when it was taken? or was Gordon a cardboard cutout?

Swashplate, there is a real International Rescue that goes to various disaster areas around the world, and Gerry anderson is it's President (or non executive director or whatever it's called).

However, unlike the Tracey's it's mainly the likes of Fireman, Paramedics, Civil Defence crew, funding themselves and taking time off from work to assist at the likes of earthquake and flood rescue.
http://www.ps2.com/irc/index.htm

(According to their website Richard Branson is now their President, But Gerry Anderson was something to do with it)

As a kid I too wanted to fly Thunderbird 2. Until reading this thread I didn't know TB2 was so popular.

Wouldn't Lady Penelope make a fab flight attendant. She could certainly teach some of the 20yr olds a thing or two about deportment. Just imagine her on the PA!
Now this might sound sexist, but wouldn't a voice like hers make some of the 'suits' sit up and listen to the safety demo.
