Question Solid objects in hand baggage?

Hi all. .. .We are travelling BA55 to JNB this Friday. In the luggage we will have 2 prismatic telescopes and stands. They are quite heavy & bulky, with metal casing, but delicate - about like a big telephoto lens. Is security going to object if they are in our hand baggage? and if they do object do they get repacked as hold baggage or confiscated? - opinions please.. .. .Thanks. .. .Sven & Floozie. .. .PS Floozie says any chance of an upgrade cos her bruv couldn't organise to be on the crew to look after us!

I guess you'll be OK. I frequently travel with large and unusual items of electronic equipment, and Security don't seem at all bothered about it. Occasionally they'll ask what something is, but I've never been made to check in anything that I say is delicate. . .. .Actually last week the X-ray operator gathered all her friends round when scanning my stuff, saying "Oooh - look at this. That's interesting!".. .. .I get a bit more hassle at check-in if I have 3 items of hand baggage. I find that offering to check-in the one non-delicate bag seems to pacify them.
