Question TRTO Course

Have had a letter arrive today from an airline running a TRTO course in Feb, and asking me if I would like to spend 10K + getting the type rating. Does anyone have any experience of such courses (ie paying yourself up front), and what kind of offers (if any) you get at the end of it??

Any info gratefully received

Interesting offer Ennie, have never heard of such a thing though just wondering whether the airline offering you this course would possibly offer you a job at the end of it? I guess you got to ask yourself if they are recruiting at the moment.
Also is the rating offered on a popular machine? Would be interesting to know if somebody else has been through this before.
Good luck mate, regards Bokkie449

Received a similar letter recently regarding
SD3-60 TRTO Course starting in February.

There are not many operators of SD3-60 A/C in the UK and the numbers will probably reduce not expand. Also, if the particular operator needs pilots why aren't they prepared to sponsor people on the type rating course? Answer, they are not hiring, also, at 10k they are more expensive than one of their competitors and probably make a decent a profit.

I would be interested to know how many are signed up for the course. Also, I believe the suggestion that the best candidates might possibly be employed in the future is a sales gimmick.

I for one will not be enrolling.

Thanks for the comments guys. Interesting points you have made. I have written back to the airline in question and asked a few questions shall we say. I have asked a few people I know in certain airlines about the type rating and the comments received have been "it wouldn't be much use to us", and "they are making money from the type rating and probably won't even offer you any employment at the end of it!" so I think I'll let this one go as an offer I can refuse!.

I'm sure things will pick up soon...lets hope so! <img src="smile.gif" border="0">
