Post Frightened ? I am

This BBC report is on a training course for people worried about flying held by an ex cop in the USA. It includes tips on making weapons from drinks cans etc so that passengers can 'retake' an aircraft and fly it to safety.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/world/americas/newsid_1841000/1841491.stm

Now I am worried about flying.

Oh Great teach the scared people to make weapons so that the Hyjacker can take them away and use them against the crew. Who's brilliant idea was that? It already totally suks to get plastic silverware, now we will get nothing because anything can technically be used as a weapon.

A good swift kick to the dingleberries would be better than cutting yourself so bad you lose a hand on some jurry rigged "can knife" me thinks!

At least Bin Laden got his lads to learn to fly the aircraft as well.

Thoughts of John-Boy and Billy-Bob joy riding a 767 though the skies that they have just 'retaken' from a harmless Asian travelling in First who looked 'dodgy' does scare me. I do hope the airlines bring pressure to bear to stop this. Terrorists need to be stopped on the ground at checkin. That includes these idiots.

Thumbs down

Not really unexpected is it?

Not really surprised that it took place in the backroom of a gun shop.

Countryside of US in a nutshell!

The pax are a much neglected resource in a hijack, shoe bomb, air rage situation.

That said, proper training and information rather than how to do surgical operations with a soft drink can would be more appropriate as you may be a smoking hole in the ground by the time you have hand crafted your weapon

Human wave tactics will save the day. Seat cushions make good shields against tweezers, knitting needles, leathermans etc. Seat belt buckles can be used if numbers are short.

Hijack resistance tactics should be part of the pre-flight safety briefing and should be on the seat back safety cards.

It is sad that a mentally disturbed young person suffocated after being piled upon by passengers, but the bad guys need to know that immediately they try something on a a/c, that's what may well happen to them.

Alert and switched on pax will turn out to be a far stronger deterrent to terrorists than all the pious embargoes and procedures that pass for security these days.

Yes, that will most likely discourage any mastermind/loony hijacker. Knowing that the neighbourhood watch consisting only of "good people" is there to prevent any wrongs…jeez
