Choppers Vietnam
Robert Mason wrote a sequel to "Chickenhawk" entitled "Chickenhawk - Back in the world - life after Vietnam". ISBN:0140158766
Chickenhawk took me right back there, age 21 and thoroughly immortal. Read it 20 odd years ago now. Must get hold of the sequel. Even if you weren't there and didn't have the memories, his imagery is very powerful.
logistic support
ammo opdems
FAC and arty spotting
winch-rescue
Brigadier's Hack and VIP Ops
medevac
big guns on external loads
dust-off and night dust-off
the massed formations of combat assaults
SAS insertion, resupply and 6 man patrol rope-extraction
psy-ops with those big big speakers and the Robert Duval music
people-sniffer down in the tree-tops
civic ops to help the local folks and suck in the Chieu Hoi deserters
gunship ops
boom-spraying VC vegetable gardens
32 years later and still thinking about telling my boys that I was there for a 15 month nightmare. But then I'd have to explain how spraying the VC vegetable gardens was worth the life of physical misery inflicted by those spray residues on my eldest.
Robert Mason's book is well worth reading. It's the book I wish I could have written.

Can highly recommend "Test Pilot" - Nevil Shute, lots about the development of the Hunter. Also "Rufus Remembers" by Rufus Heald - covers his career in the RAF and the CAA. Both available from Amazon.
I'm currently reading "Skunk Works" by Ben Rich, about the development of the F117 Stealth Fighter. Fascinating.

Chocks Wahay - Test Pilot sounds like a fascinating book. Can you name the author, please? There's several by that title in ABE and I can't tell which one it is that you mean.
