IFE to Cape Town - BA advice ?

Have to book flights this week to CPT, flown with Virgin and SAA down there before and find their IFE great but:

SAA now use the A342 instead of the A346 and the A342 only has main screen entertainment and no PTV. Good seat pitch but I'll go mad.

Virgin were ok last time I went just before Xmas but wasn't overly impressed but VPort on the A346 was better than SAA. However I fly back in March and they have changed the schedule from daily which doesn't fit in with my schedule so can't get one back when I want to.

Have always avoided BA as they use the B744 with bad seat pitch on this route and the BA site only shows 12 channels for the IFE. Does the B744 have AVOD now and what is the choice of channels now ?

Looks as though its BA (or Emirates via Dubai, actually cheaper and possibly workable) or muck up my plans and stick with Virgin ?

Fly VS back via JNB... call them and see if they can make sure that you are booked onto an SA flight to JNB, and your luggage is checked through from CPT to LHR. Unless you're really paranoid, in which case you collect your luggage at JNB and re-check it.

If VS is unable to accomodate a connecting flight, book an open-jaw ticket, then book a flight on kulula/ba/mango/1time from CPT to JNB.

All BA 747's have AVOD systems installed. And the seat pitch is actually the same if not more then Virgins published seat pitch.
