Out of curiousity why have Air Canada got rid of some of their A340s? Remember seeing one in a hangar at Zurich last year presumably being prepared for Swiss.
How many seats are Air AsiaX putting in their aeroplane?
I am all questions today!
Thanks.

AC A340s

All of their A340s are gone; a few A330s remain. The airline has replaced these with 777s, -300ERs and 777-200LRs. Just better economics - more bang for their Canadian bucks ...

9M-XAB departed EGSS
the above mentioned A330 departed Stansted about 15 mins ago - and is currently passing Gatwick at FL260, south bound. Doesn't seem to be headed in too much of a CYYZ direction.... ;-)
Air Asia in KL
I was in Kuala Lumpur just before xmas, and saw some of the preparations and adverts for their new service. There were some large posters showing (presumably) aspects of the UK and London to attract passengers. One of them shows a London Transport Routemaster double-decker bus - which has been out of service for a few years.
At KL, Air Asia operate from a separate terminal, in a completely different part of the airport from the main terminals, and it takes about 25 minutes in a taxi to get between the two locations. The Air Asia terminal is known as the 'low cost carrier terminal' (LCCT), and it is a converted cargo shed! In fact, when I was there, they were still converting it. Catering consisted of a few vending machins and a McDonalds. No piers and jetties, just a departure lounge, and you all schlepp out to the aircraft amid all the noise and fumes.

Wow, at least you got to schlep, my experiences there have been mad rushes to the airplane. The Macau flights are crazy that way. I swear the US Air A 320 plane that evacuated in the Hudson river did a more organized egress than an Air Asia KL boarding. I bought the pre board ticket to avoid this but they don't give you enough time to get on board before allowing the next gaggle of pax run you over.......
Ahhh, but my 'schlepp' was because of the closure of Thailand (well, BKK really), and I had to re-route via KL.
I didn't know/realise that the Air Asia shack was nowhere near the rest of the airport, so I missed my original flight. Then I had to find somewhere to stay overnight ... and my credit-card wouldn't work .
Managed to re-book for the following day, which is when I saw the whole set-up in daylight. They are re-furbing half the 'terminal building' (ie, the cargo shed) in time for the new UK service.
Still dunno how they make any money ... v.cheap flights, and just 19 of us flew from KL to Thailand on a 737.

AirAsia X has announced a promotional campaign for flights from London to Kuala Lumpur.
Since the launch of AirAsia X's inaugural flight from London to Kuala Lumpur on March 11, demand for the route has recorded sales of 60,000 seats .
Has anyone heard anything about the 2nd A340, has it been secured.
AirAsia X are hopeing to go daily on the Stansted-Kuala Lumpur route by the end of JUN/JUL 2009 .

It has now been secured, yeah. Don't know much detail yet though, other than it's from Air Canada again.
Been updating this thread:

They've opened negotiations this week for Sydney from KL too, as well as talking to JFK and LA.
If one of the US routes comes to fruition, they'll use the second A340 on it and remain at x 5 weekly from STN until later aircraft orders come through.
