I have a U.K CPL (fly a 757 U.K)
I am going out to RockHampton for a wedding. Then we need to fly up to a Station in Barcaldine.
I was thinking of hireing a tiwn, and flying up myself.
Whats the deal with getting a validation etc.
Thanks for the info.

Have a look at CASA (Australian CAA)'s website on www.casa.gov.au
It has a good explanation of the procedures for getting a Validation/Special Licence. It's quite straightforward and inexpensive.
For hiring a plane, the flying club will probably want to check you out. Not necessarily a lengthy checkout though. By the way aircraft hire works out at around AUD 1 =GBP 1, so it would work out quite cheap considering the current exchange rate of around GBP1 = AUD 2.75.

G'day Dogma,
If you aren't used to remote area navigating, I would definitely think about a GPS. Depending on when you are going to be travelling out that way I would also consider flying in the morning to avoid the worst of the thermals and thunderies if you are going to fly in Summer. Another good tip is to take and drink plenty of water.
Also, take a camera, you are bound to have a lot of fun!!
