ID 4 Engine Prop 29/12/2008

Caught a glimpse of a 4 engine prop plane over Newport South Wales around 13:00 14:00 yesterday 29/12/2008 only caught a glimpse as I was driving in opposite direction thought it was a Herc but son who was in the car says it was not, fuselage was all wrong for a Herc he reckons. Glimpse I caught reminded me of a Viscount or Brittania, don't think we have any of these flying in the uk.
Direction was from Cardiff heading up the Severn towards Chepstow.
Anybody else spot this if so what was it?

I saw it over Cheltenham at 12.00L, through the power of SBS a friend advised it was a Lockheed Electra, no idea from it was going to or from.

Alantic Airways fly Lockheed Electras out of Coventry. They are generally white in colour on top with black undersides with a green tail.

Definitely sounds like the L188 Electra. Atlantic Airlines at Coventry use them for cargo.

I take it Bru was Brussels and Cvt Coventry so did it make a drop off at Cardiff to be sighted after it left Cardiff? Would seem a long way around if it didn't.

Regular visitor to Cardiff

The Electra is / was to be regularly seen at Cardiff - it seemed to operate mostly in the evenings, possibly on the mail run (?)
