Low Flying piston engined Aircraft

Hi
Yesterday (Sunday) there was a very low flying pistoned engined aircraft that flew over my house in York. I thought they sounded like Merlins but I may be wrong. Does anyone know what it was please

It was about 16-00ish, I was just getting sorted to go to the pub hence hearing it but not being able to see it.
