DAA warns of delays at Dublin Airport

Wednesday, 9 July 2008 14:44
The Dublin Airport Authority is warning passengers they may experience some delays this afternoon.
A problem with the air traffic management system has lead controllers to cap the number of aircraft arriving at the airport to 14 an hour.
Passengers are advised to turn up as normal for their flights.

At around 11.45am this morning, a problem occurred with the air traffic management system. Due to a technical fault, air traffic controllers were unable to identify aircraft.
This problem lasted for 10 minutes before the system returned to normal.
In that time, all departures were held on the ground and some aircraft in the air were asked to remain where they were.
A spokeswoman for the Irish Aviation Authority says as a result of this incident and in the interests of safety, air traffic controllers have now capped the number of aircraft arriving at Dublin Airport at 14 per hour.
She said they want to satisfy themselves that the system is stable. She added that this would cause delays and passengers were advised to check with their airlines.
