The BAC 1-11 Today
Having seen the very good thread about the L1011 Tristar, I thought I would do the same with the 1-11.
If anyone knows how many are still flying, where they are, and has any photos please let me know.
I for one would be very interested to find out how many are left!

The operator out of Almaty in Kazakstan (above) is called Scat. You can find their One-Eleven schedule here (sorry, in Cyrillic only). I see it even gets to Moscow DME sometimes.

The three Northrop-Grumman research 111s are very active, in and out of Baltimore. Looking at flightaware.com the other US-registered ones have been up and about within the last couple of months too.

Glad to see there are some still out there 
Wish they put RR Tays on them in the 80's probably would have had loads more around today.

Is the Kazakh one therefore the only one still operating passenger services ? Whose type certificate are the remaining aircraft still on ? BAE or the Romanians ? The one in Kazakhstan is one of the Romanian-built ones, the others listed here are British built.

Magazine shows that 241 were delivered and 39 are still in service.
So there is still a few left to see flying.

As I know ,in Romania the VIP BAC 1-11 is no longer flying , it was replaced with a Bae 146 I guess...Nevertheless in the '70 and '80 when BAC1-11's were one of the main Tarom fleet ,some of them were wet leased to Ryanair and Lauda while these launched their services....
The Romanian One Elevens did indeed get Ryanair off to a start. It was shortly after Perestroika and every Romanian pilot eligible jumped at the assignment in the West - apparently quite a few test pilots from the factory pulled rank and came over to Dublin. Their piloting skills with the One Eleven may have been top notch but their English wasn't and after some early confusion (or rather non-comprehension) they were prohibited from making PA to the pax except in an emergency, all normal announcements being by the cabin crew.
Pity poor ATC then ! Anybody remember them on frequency ?

as I know, some of the pilots hired for ryanair were english speaking as well as they could flying a westbuilt plane(bac 1-11 was the 1st plane made in west wich has been bought by a former socialist country for its flag carrier tarom) and being able for an usual conversation....If they weren't capable to tell fairy tales to their pax in an oxford english....forget it!

Sorry airman13,
But LOT operated Convair CV-240s and Viscounts and CSA flew Brittanias,so these were the first western built aircraft to be operated by former socialst countries national airlines and Aeroflot actually ordered Caravelles and all this was a long time before Tarom got 1-11s
