Big Circles in the sky

Left work in Leeds this evening and there were three vapour trails describing a large circle in the sky. I have no idea of the altitude of them but they were high. They were over the sky towards York. I've never seen them before so hence the following question:
Do any of you fine people have any idea as to what had created them and why. One lad at work said he wondered if it may have been an awac on exercise.

Thanks in Advance

Would imagine it's tankers, either VC10's or KC135's. See them quite often over MME.

Hi Stella

201 E-3F French Airforce, C/S FAF9050

was the AWAC doing circuits. It was even mentioned in the Yorkshire Evening Post, as some concerned residents rung the MOD with their concerns

I saw these circles, from the east. They were separate circles, not spirals, as in the photo above of the AWACS contrails. I took a photo, but not able to post it at the moment. It's not a very good one, anyway.

UK4 is located over the York area & has E3's circling most days. Usually between FL290 & FL330.
Hope that helps
