Challenger 604

I have a question about the ceiling and max speed of a Challenger 604.

First, please forgive my ignorance as I have little knowledge of aircraft.

About 3 years ago I was on board a 604 flying from Cleveland OH, to Calgary, AB.
In the passenger area we had a television displaying our speed, altitude, and location. Similar to some commercial flights.
While I don't remember the exact numbers displayed, I seem to remember our altitude being very close to 50,000 feet (47 perhaps?), and our speed being somewhere around 950kph, or perhaps a little more. I remember we were way behind schedule, and the pilots mentioned they were trying to make up some time. I also remember being quite impressed with the aircraft's capabilities.
However from all of the technical specs I've read, none of these numbers are achievable in this aircraft.
Was I just seeing things, or is it possible we really were at that altitude and speed?

Thanks in advance for any light anyone can shed on this!

Challenger 604

Was'nt there a 604 that that crashed recently at just that altitude?

There was a report of a 604 that's engines went into core lock and could'nt be restarted - ATC called them asking them if they were ok at that height and reply "yeah, just havin some fun"
