Southend Thread

I read a review in Airport World of Southend Airport, where Airport Management said that 737NGs would not be able to use the short runway at Southend to carry a useful payload.

737NGs come in several different sizes, and there is the new version of the 737-800 which uses the short runway in Rio.

Surely Southend is not the shortest runway that 737NGs might use? 737-600s and 737-700s could fly to Spain, could they?

Depends which runway is in use. I believe one end has an obstacle (church?) which makes things interesting.

At 37m, I don't think the width is an issue. Its more likely 06 of 1605m length but with an of LDA 1285m. B707's B757's. B727's and B737's all use Southend, but without pax.
All previously discussed in the thread mentioned before.

Presumably it was landing there, as B737's have been for many years. Come in for either maintenance, painting or storage, or sometimes all three.

Dont know why that 737 was there, but theyve used that colour scheme for quite some time now, maybe a few years.

Does anyone know if the open day at the airport will take place. The SEN web site does not even mention the airshow as such.

Normally a large vinyl banner appears near the Airport Roundabout HZ, I will have a look tomorrow and report back. Hopefully its the same as usual with some nice access onto the centre of the field again.

Southend Airshow
Does anyone know if the airport will be having there usual open day during the two days of the airshow. Not to sure but the flying programme at the sothend airshow doesn't look brilliant except for the Red Arrows and this year a 747! Real peed off by this as this is the only heavy i have seen there for ages and whilst that is all going on i will be in New York but i wonder what 747 will be used at the show? (what airline).

Ryan Air @ Southend

Last night a nice new looking Ryanair 737-800 ( i guess) landed on 06 @ Southend around 1900 local. Not a usual visitor to the airport, just wondered what he was doing there? Must say was a v quiet beast compared to some that come and go....
