Runway 06L closed due to broken light fitting and large hole and all ops from 06R at present causing a few fun and games with aircraft that were waiting at 06L hold, but all being handled due usual proficiancy of Manchester ATC and Ops

Yes I know it is closed at night but this was yesterday morning when a BMI flight reported a large hole as he started his takeoff run and this was later found to be a light fitting which had broken and I think lifted some tarmac as well

Apparently, the bulk of the work is to upgrade rapid exit AE for use in LVP's. Currently only BD and A are available as exits in CAT3 conditions. I'm told that the Airport are also using the opportunity to upgrade for future use by A380. Saw some heavy working taking place in this area a couple of nights ago. The decorators were also out painting in a new runway centreline.
