Polet An-124 at MAN today

I see MAN has a 124 arriving a little after 8am this morning.

Anyone know what it's doing and where it's going?

As it's inbound from Hahn, I presume it's coming to pick up cargo.

Shame they are landing from the West at the mo.

does it really take a whole AN-124 to carry a single jet engine?! Isnt this slight overkill, or does it have other engines/cargo on board for other destinations?

You need a cargo aircraft to get the engine on it's stand, another engine stand and all the tooling on it you cannot carry that lot as belly freight. These days cargo aircraft only come in two sizes huge and Bl***y huge!

It is not so much the weight of the engines, but the dimensions.

Depending on what a/c it is (757/767/A330), will depend on how big the door on the transporter needs to be.

Some engines, when they are less urgent AOG parts, travel on 747 SCDs or nose loaders on schedule cargo services, but I doubt the Dominican Republic is served frequently by such aircraft.

So, instead of having to pay £10,000s a night on pax hotels/food etc, and losing money on missed schedules in the following days and weeks, it is often more economically sound to use a dedicated charter a/c.

Certainly not a cheap option for an airline though - several hundred thousand dollars at least.

It's heartbreaking to see planes like this visit Manchester when I am not there to film them

Polet's RA82010 arrived Prestwick from Nottingham this afternoon and looks to be night-stopping.

from those pics, it seems as the truck went with it all the way to Punta Cana and back again?
The truck is nose into the aircraft. Can anyone confirm this was the case..

Seems as if Antonov's 124 ferried into MAN yesterday evening.

Anyone know what it's loading and where it's going?

Another sick engine perhaps, or BAe cargo?

Knew you'd come up with the goods.

Very strange for oil equipment to come out of MAN when there are cheaper airports elsewhere in the UK.
