Schipol today

Did something happen at Schipol earlier today? I was flying back from the continent and some of the pilots were asking about it (state of runway?), the controllers' replies implied something ujusual had happened but not what.

You didn't visit me!! None of my usual sources of info show anything interesting, though it was pretty windy here last night (still is) which probably restricted arrivals to a single runway, which may have caused delays.

Here's the Wx for AMS:

------- EHAM / AMS / AMSTERDAM

EHAM SA 310955Z MET
24022KT 9999 FEW014 BKN048 12/09 Q1003 NOSIG=
EHAM FC 310840Z TAF
311019 24025G35KT 9999 SCT035 BECMG 1619 24018KT=
EHAM FT 310425Z TAF
311206 25023G33KT 9999 SCT012 BKN020 BECMG 1417 23016KT
BECMG 2201 21010KT BECMG 0104 6000 SCT008=

Looking at that, if the 24025G35KT stuff is happening, they *might* be landing on just RW22, against the normal configurations which allow 2 landing runways (RW24 for departures). From memory, RW22 is the short one and has to be vacated at the end if taxiing to the main part of the airport, which would severely reduce the inbound flow. Might even have to hold, which is usual for AMS.

what's wrong with landing on 27. People can't cope with a a wind 20 degrees off ???

This normally causes long delays though.

Don't forget the very strong noise lobby over there! To keep the neighbours happy has more priority than making sure airlines can be on time...

(nose should have been noise of course!)

I'm sitting here watching them land on 27 as we speak. Controller is giving 260 at 22 gusting 31! I've only seen them use 22 for private jets, but they also do approaches to 27 with a late break to 24.

Edited to add that as well as arrivals on 27 they are now also using it for departures (as well as 24) - that is something I haven't seen before.

I think they were asking about the state of a runway which was closed for quite some weeks for maintenance, and was just back in service. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought it was 18C/36C.
