Southampton Airport

Wasn't qute sure what to put as a subject, but anyway.

On Friday I was in Soton city centre and saw a 747 flying overhead, pretty low (at a guess i'd say 5000' ish). I know Southampton's runway is not nearly big enough for a 747, and would normally just think "oh" and carry on with my life. But this is the third time i've seen a 747 at about this height over Southampton. I saw one in April and can't remember when t'other one was.

Can anyone explain it? Why would such an aircraft be flying so low over that area?

Cheers,

Ginger
