Crowns of Boeings

How big really are the crown spaces of Boeing widebodies?

Boeing advertises their overhead crew rests on Boeing 777. But while their Airport Planning Manuals give some information on the cabin and belly hold sizes, does anyone have the actual numbers for the height of that rest from the top of the cabin ceiling to the bottom of plane roof?

Boeing 747 also has overhead crew rests. Again, any numbers for the size?

As for Dreamliner, what is its crown like?

Boeing says that they decided it is more important to maximize the width at the eye level than at the armrest level. As the width is greatest on the midline, it means Dreamliner has floor much lower in the fuselage than a comparable conventional plane, e. g. Airbus 330. This surely means there is little cargo space left in the belly? Anyway, then the Dreamliner also has a crown useless for passengers and cargo. How big?

When you fly a cargo 747 with no cabin ceiling, it is startling the distance to the roof. It's enormous, so on a 747 there is plently of upper level space. The 777 is probably comparable. The Dreamliner has a smaller fuselage than a 777, so it may be time to shuffle around on knees....IF it has ceiling accommodation!

Not sure about a 777 but on a 747 freighter a pallet can be 118inches on the main deck in the nose area under the cockpit where they are restricted to 96inches.

As the previous poster said its amazing to stand on the main deck of a 747 freighter when its empty.

On the 777 (this was the -200LR demonstrator) the overhead rest area is pretty snug but has room to comforably move about. They have set it up the bunks so your head is "down the tunnel" I'm not so sure about that but they are also angled to be pretty level when in cruise ( in other words on the ground they are 5 deg 'feet down'.

Last week I was in Seattle with a bunch of others getting the everything you want to know about the 787 speil and was told that its crew rest will be basically the same as the one fitted to the 777s.

BTW the Flight Deck on the 787 has got loads of cool stuff incl dual HUDs, EFBs and a moving map that goes from .05 nm (with airport layout to 1280 nm. Oh yeah as well as the when will you be at the selected height, alt of FL at present ROD or ROC it'll have one that will do the same kind of thing for speed el nifto!
