ILS Question

Painfully basic question.

For approaches calling for a turn near short final (e.g. Kai Tak, KDCA), is ILS of any use? If so, how?

Thanks.

Kai Tak did not have an ILS, instead it had an Instrument Guidance System (IGS) that led you down a slope to the "Checkerboard", when you had decided not to play chicken a quick right turn placed you on very short finals.

Some did play chicken and their airmanship (read that as hairy landings) can be seen on various Web-sites, you go find them.
