I'm afraid there has not been an official spectators area at Dub for years..
There are however a number of spots around the perimeter road where some dodgy types seem to hang out with airband radios and other spotter accoutrements, dependant on the runway in use.
Drive out of the airport and do a lap of the road and you'll find 'em.
Just don't be another idiot and stop alongside the ' NO STOPPING' signs at the threshold of 16. It’s a dangerous corner, and I've nearly mowed down a few spotter types in the past (accidentally of course!)
Just be sure to bring your hat, gloves and a raincoat - not that it's cold you understand - but you do have an image to keep up!

Gatwick Spectators Gallery
Hi All,
Dropping someone off at LGW on Sunday ... and wondering if there is still a spectators area ?
Or has security gone mad now forced it to close ?
I seem to remember a roof top and a Herald many moons ago ...
Thanks in advance

There's no spectators terrace at LGW anymore. In fact, there are no facilities whatsoever! What do you expect when the BAA is run by people who have no passion for aviation

I know several areas for spotting at Gatwick one of them being at the 26L holding point.
PM if you want my secret location not prepared to tell publicly as it is a really nice area of countryside.

I think TwoDots was looking for something official within the terminal complex. As for all airports, there are of course plenty of unofficial places all around the airport, depending on what exactly you want to see and from how far.

Stanstead - Viewing areas
Hi all,
Does anyone have an idea of where the best place to stop in a car is to get some good views of Arriving and departing Aircraft. My two usual locations are just off the M11 on a grass verge but the cops move you on from there and the second is in Birchanger services but looking upwards with a big grin and scanner on gets some funny looks. Would appreciate directions as if one was travelling North on M11 that is from M25 to A1
Thanks
Rob

Head towards the old terminal (think it's signposted the Executive Terminal nowadays); drive past the entrance road, and keep going until you end up on the opposite side of the runway to the terminal. There is a long straight bit where you can park, and walk a couple of yards through the trees up to the fence. As far as I am aware the local constabulary have no problem with this location.
Limited viwes to the terminal, but you get a good view of everything on the runway.

Well Toronto is joining in the North American security paranoia At the popular Fedex Hill spot, no stopping signs have gone up and police is chasing people away daily. So much for this being a really nice family outing during the summer months. So glad the airport is again a notch more secure At the same time of course, nobody stops me from driving right into the infield cargo area, which would seem a tad more risky.

Well got to Stanstead today and found the location. For anyone else going head to the north terminal, follow signs for Hilton Hotel. Keep going straight, through the village of Burton (think thats its name) about a mile further up the verge on the left becomes rather large. Pull over there and walk through the edge. If you get to the crash gate on a 90 degree bend you have gone to far.
After speaking to the FEDEX security it would seem in summer this whole area is used by families to watch the planes and have a pic nic. As curious says its rubbish for the terminal but for the landings and take off's its second to none. To watch a 757 take off as a 737 landed behind it was great and something I don't get to see at my local airfield which is why on New Years Day I am going back

Cannot Add to best Airports for Spotters but 1 of worst in my opinion
farnborough - very limited views around perimeter none ramp side
and unfriendly Security . local police like handing out pieces of paper
if they see you near perimeter. expect to get stopped Often

My apologies to all - I was trying to merge some posts from this thread with the spotting one below and seem to have 'merged' the actual posts in themselves here! Hope you can make head or tail of it all.
I am a slow learner
EDIT: I have now managed to split/merge the relevant threads into this thread.

Schiphol Spotting
Is it possible to get onto the spectator terraces at Amsterdam if you are a
passenger in "transit" ? I have 4 hours to wait for a connection.
Anybody out there actually done a similar thing ?

You have to come landside at Schiphol to access the viewing terrace, but you have the choice of doing that or wandering the piers airside (apart from 'H' I believe) so you can see much the same and possibly better, although photos are hampered by window blinds.
