Diversions

With the season of RVR's upon us I thought it might make interesting reading over the winter if we had a thread where we could post what if any diversions have turned up at your local airport.

Long gone have the days where we would get 20 or more divs on the deck at Manchester when Londons big three were socked out for days at a time, but i still think it makes for interesting listning/viewing when other airfields movements turn up.

Post away people...........

In prehistoric days I was a pax on an Icelandic stretch DC-8 that was diverted from Keflavik to Prestwick. A number of hours after departure from Luxemburg it was announced that Keflavik was socked in and we were diverting to Shannon. Eventually that was changed to Prestwick. After refueling we took off on a rainy midnight for nonstop to New York.

Any comments on the diversion options for the A380 as I read presently only 60 airports in the world can accommodate it, a problem or not?

sss- you may wish to 'explore' this thread - buried in all the usual slagging, US v Europe/Boeing v Airbus etc is some info regarding A380 pavement loads, diversion considerations and taxyway widths.

See if you can pick the wheat from the chaff

EMA/BHX SNOCLO

As of 1915 EMA was SNOCLO and BHX was iffy with CAT1 lighting .There was snow on the runway which caused two go-arounds. Some EMA traffic has ended up in MAN.
