In Praise of Small Displays
Been to Duxford, Biggin and Sywell displays in the last four weeks. The first two all very well done, lots of fast and noisy stuff but also at the end of a long drive, lots of other people and £20 a pop plus food and diesel.
Sywell this Sunday. Easy access even just as the display, well trawled on local TV and Radio was about to start. No noisy jets, nothing bigger than a Dak. But small aircraft, reasonably close to a well thought out crowdline and given the opportunity for something other than fly by fast/slow/gear up/down takes the displaying back to its roots. Each participant did something it did well. The Barnstorming Moths low, slow and under the limbo. The lovely Twin Pin's slow pass. Even the Utterly Butterlys seemd a bit different.
Excellent photgraphic opportunities too.
And all in aid of the local air ambulance.
Any other smaller displays in the same vein that users can reccomend.

I can recommend Abingdon Fayre...
Its in aid of another Charity - the Douglas House Hospice.
They have a mix of stuff there as it is a joint Fly-in/Airshow and this year saw a pair of Mustangs, pair of Hawks, Jat Provost, Yak-52, various Chipmunks, Austers and cubs; T-28 Fennec, Beech 18, various homebuilt/production types...
Check out the website for an idea of what is there - it's not all aeroplanes and was only a fiver to get in this year...
