Incident at Larnaca reported
I would call this report somewhat overdramatised - is a full stop at close to V1 really that scary?

Bit slow on this one weren't they?
Slightly less dramatic but still "journalistic" article appeared last Thursday here.
Was about 120 knots at abort, no mean feat to do that near MTOW on a 753, but all was done to book and ended up ok, a/c back in service within 24h.
Awful to hear of Wayne and Lisa's plight nonetheless...

Given the obvious gravity of this situation perhaps it would be wise for all operators to rewrite their SOPs to dictate that the aircraft should be taken into the air regardless of any problems.
That way the distress and upset associated with sudden heavy braking at or near V1 can be avoided.

More objective, reasoned journalism I see...
Oddly enough, the facts tells a rather different story-
Take-Off power applied, engine overspeed warning illuminated, power reduced slightly, still no effect, full stop with brakes/reverse thrust carried out...Brakes got hot, fire put out, pax got off down the steps.
No drama, no danger, dare I say it...NO HEADLINES...
