Airplane Identification

Hello all....

How as "Spotters" do you make the distinction between aircraft of the same aircraft class. Take for example the A340. How do you identify the differences between the 200, 300, 500 and 600 sub categories of this aircraft?

Any other tips on identifying a/c would be very welcome!!

Here's a great link http://www.b737.org.uk/history.htm on identifying different versions of the 737. I had another link identifying the differences in most modern pax jets but can't find it at the moment. I'll post it if I can find it again.

Cheers
