Heathrow runway closure

I'd just seen family off at Heathrow earlier today and was watching aircraft landing at about 15:30. I could see 3 or 4 planes lined up and as, I think, a 747 was 50 or 60 seconds from landing it went around. All aircraft on finals diverted and all subsequent take offs and landings were done on the other runway.

Any idea why this might happen?

Steve
