FOC tickets

What's the current industry practice with giving FOC or discount tickets to airline staff? Are FOC tickets considered a firm booking, or can the check-in staff take you off a flight if it is full?

All FOC tickets (and most at-cost) tickets, plus ID50/75/90, are standby tickets. Unless travelling for duty, they're usually the lowest priority standby as well! Discount tickets (such as Virgin Mates and Mates Plus) are firm bookings.
