Jetty strike at LHR
I've only made a few posts so I don't feel the need to order a Personal Title and help support PPRuNe

BMI B737 gets dinged by belt loader. 10cm scratch on paintwork and entry made into Tech Log, deferrred by engineers. Six crew and 89 passengers on board. No injuries reported.
More to follow.
Stop the presses! This must mean that a megadeathjet is about to plummet from the sky whilst the brave pilot battles with the controls to avoid a nursery school!
What a waste of bandwidth!

I can understand how some people think these are a waste of bandwidth but the AAIB does investigate these incidents so they are perhaps not quite as trivial as some would initially scoff....

Yet another shining example of PPRuNe's descent into the online equivalent of a bitchslapping contest....
One wonders if faced with the initial poster in real life, those who scoff would be so quick to do so?
Thats the "beauty" of these fora.. it allows weak people to act OH SO Tough...

Interesting to note that 780 odd people have read the thread - me thinks that there is some interest in this thread.
There seems to be a common arrogance running around this site at the moment where it seems to be "cool" to scoff at non lethal aviation events. Surely that's what this site is all about?!? (I do agree that some education is required so that people put the right topics in the right place though)
Also interesting that when something serious does happen it generally seems to be very uncool to even make a direct reference to the flight just in case indiciduals could be identified - so bloody what if it was directly identified!!
....and finally - Pinkaroo is a pilot and he/she found it interesting.....FlapsOne should stop being so high and mighty!

I can understand a great deal of frustration that becomes evident on these forums. If one looks at the first post of the thread
Is it actually achieving anything? Does it attempt at a commencement of discussion? IMO, it doesn't. And this pisses people off. It's like when people post "I saw a go-around at XYZ airport".......it's been said before and will be said again. Go-arounds aren't a big deal. There are so many reasons that may cause a go-around. I myself have seen these threads and though to myself (however correct or incorrect it may be) the only reason this is here is because somebody wants to see gory details (ATC error/pilot error etc). And I don't think I am the only one.
Admittedly, some of the responses to these posts can be a little inflamatory. I guess it's just an overflow of (understandable)frustration.
A BA 747 has allegedly struck the jetty at Terminal One , LHR. . Low impact minor damage. 325 pax onboard. More to follow

one question though.. if you think a topic is likely to annoy you, then why open it?
Maybe the posters who shot this down may have been venting some frustration, but the wording of them makes these people look like they are stroking their own ego's with highly sarcastic put downs.
I'll put it this way: the amount of sarcasm and ill-placed "wit" on here makes me think twice about posting anything.. let alone actually starting a thread. The annoyance of having to read the kind of responses so frequently seen on here would be simply too much to even justify bothering.
I'm sure others feel the same, and thats not good for forum like this!
Sorry, just my two cents worth..... awaiting strike back....

I know it's a rumour network. And while there are a great number of forum members who make their living from the aviation industry there are some who, while having a healthy interest, don't. Perhaps in a way it is 'closing ranks' and covering for each other. I know I don't like seeing my workmates being bad-mouthed or having their professionalism questioned or aired out in public. It is the nature of the industry though..............

Jerricho,
Point is well taken, but I do see from the majority of these posts that the initial poster is not doing any bad-mouthing. They are simply asking why a certain event occured.
I think these posts just hit a raw nerve among certain people, when really there was no ill will intended. It seems to be those who come in on the thread later who seem to start the pilot bashing..meanwhile the original innocent poster is left wishing he never signed up to PPRuNe...
No doubt there are many loud mouth trouble makers on these boards... but they need to be dealt with individually as opposed to attacking the person who asked a simple question.

These guys (and maybe Gal's) that are so quick to jump down peoples throats are probably the same inflated ego types that think they are being big and clever when barking at the dispatcher in the cockpit or shouting at the traffic department on the company frequency thinking that it is going to get them what they want.
In reality it acheives the opposite, I've made a/c hold for an extra 5-10mins for a stand because some over inflated ego in the LHS has been barking his orders at us down the company frequency, that incidentally is a shared frequency with many other companies (who don't get the abuse that we do from our crews).
I've also had topics flamed in here that I considered interesting and noteworthy but now I think twice before posting.
As others have said, if it doesn't interest YOU then don't bother posting a reply - thats what is wasting bandwidth !!.

I guess that gives you the moral high-ground. Egos indeed

Hold up people.
Read the initial post of THIS thread again. Does it really serve a purpose? There is not attempt to engage in a discussion. It almost fits perfectly into Danny's warning at the bottom "to elicit certain reactions" It has certainly done that.
However.................I can see SNNEI's point that the initial post probably has no ill meaning to it. Perhaps it's just a defence mechanism of people here who are a little sick of seeing lines of irrelevant sensationalist excrement in the media, and are worried it may spill over into here.

Talk about going off at a tango!!!!!!!!!!
"More to follow", certainly plenty has, except that the first post was on 21 Apr @ 12:53 and now it is 23 Apr almost High Noon! No more about the incident that started the post but plenty of other banter.

As SLF I could get very ****** off if I thought that a petty exchange between cockpit and ground resulting in an un-necessary parking delay meant I missed my coach/train/connection/pub closing. What happened to the customer coming first?
So there!!!

Shamroc,
It can quite easily take longer than that to get all the staff and equipment moved from one side of the terminal to the other, so as SLF you would still have to wait somewhere along the line, either to get onto stand, to get off the a/c or to collect your bags.

Back to an update. The pier was set up for a b767 and the jetty hit the left hand wing requiring replacement of leading edge section just inboard of no 2 engine. Also a chain was injested into no 2 engine requiring replacement of fan blade set and repair of attrition liner.A/c A.O.G. for over a week. This happened in Terminal 1.
