Non-Spanish speaking story
Has anyone ever heard a funny story, told all in Spanish, but for English-speakers? My friend told me this once years ago and he started by asking if I spoke Spanish. I said no and then he told this story and I understood it all. He died however and as I am in costa rica this week, I was reminded that I still do not speak Spanish. It started out with " Dos hombres.....about how they went to a bar, ordered beers..... And I do not remember more. It would be so great to have this story again, if you know it!

Two Gallegos went into their local and ordered two beers. As was their custom when the beers had been consumed and they were ready to leave they started arguing about whose turn it was to pay.
The bar owner, who had heard it all before suggested a solution. He gave each one a bucket of water and told them to put their heads in the bucket whilst holding their breath, first one to surface for air paid for the round.
The owner then went off to attend to other customers and returned 10 minutes later to find they had both drowned.
I guess you had to be there.

Dos Gallegos/Catalanes/Leperos/Vascos (Aberdonians) entraron en su local y pedian dos cervezas. Como era su costumbre cuando la cerveza se había consumido y están dispuestos a marchar se empezó a discutir sobre quién toca a pagar.
El dueño del bar, que había escuchado todo eso antes sugirió una solución. Cada uno dio un balde de agua y les dijo que pusieron sus cabezas en el balde sin respirar, el primero quien saca la cabeza del agua paga la ronda.
El propietario se fue a atender a otros clientes y volvió 10 minutos más tarde y encontré ambas habían ahogado.
Y uno para Capetonian:
Por qué no abandonan nunca los Leperos a Lepe? Porque cuando llegan a la carretera general hay un señal de tráfico que dice "Huelva".

Por que gallegos ?
In some places in America like mexico for example the refer to "Gallegos" like in Spain we refer to "Leperos". It said that there isn't one place in the world without a gallego and since a lot of time ago in some parts in the world whtn there is a joke about funny people they refer to a gallego.
I was living in Mexico and i heard that several times when the people tell a funny history or joke. And i was so surprised also :P
In UK i think is a french or and irish, but I dont know sure.

Aberdonians, Catalanes, Gallegos. etc. etc. Depending on where you are in the world you'll find some part of the population with a reputation for being tightfisted. Not always true as I have personally found.
As for "lack of intelligence", the same applies. I have had the good fortune to meet Irish, Polacks, Leperos, Goofy Newfies etc all of whom have the same jokes repeatedly told about them, not always accurate.
Travel the world a little and you'll hear it all repeated, then decide for yourself.
